upcoming android phones of the future: what we can expect to see next season

Do you obsessively monitor every smartphone launch? Your calendar must have been jam-packed in 2022: from low-cost blowers to new flagships and foldable phones, the year has already produced a slew of gleaming new smartphones.

But don’t worry: there are still a few highly-awaited smartphones on the way before you start a new calendar. Do you want to know what’s going to happen next? We’ve compiled a list of confirmed releases, likely launches, and rumored disclosures so you know precisely which smartphones you may still expect to see in 2022-2023.

The best upcoming android phones we could expect to see next season are:

Before we go into the specifics, here are some of the handsets expected by the end of 2022 and beyond:

  • Nokia X50
  • Google Pixel 7
  • Oppo Dragonfly
  • Xiaomi 12T & 12T Pro
  • Asus ROG Phone 6 and 6 Pro
  • Google Pixel Fold
  • Sony Xperia 5 IV
  • Huawei Mate X3
  • Motorola Edge 30 Ultra
  • Samsung Galaxy S23 series
  • Nothing Phone 1

The Nokia X50

Although there have been several rumors about a Nokia 9 PureView successor, the trail appears to have gone cold, with some stating that Nokia may release a Nokia 8.3 replacement the Nokia X50, maybe having five cameras. This device might include a 6.5-inch display, Snapdragon 700 series processors, and a 108-megapixel primary camera.

The Google Pixel 7

Google has made the unexpected decision to confirm the Pixel 7 and Pixel 7 Pro designs. The camera bar on the rear is now made of aluminum, as is the rest of the chassis, and we expect this phone to launch with Tensor 2.

The announcement was made during Google I/O 2022, the release date is not scheduled until October 2022.

Oppo Dragonfly

In our long-term test, Oppo’s first folding phone received four stars. The Find N’s popularity stemmed from its ability to fit easily in a pocket while still providing a premier folding experience.

Taking that technique a step further, Oppo is rumored to be developing a clamshell handset to compete with the Galaxy Z Flip 4. No definitive specs have been released for the rumored Dragonfly. However, rumor has it that its design will be inspired by other clamshells.

When closed, it should be palm-sized, before flipping open to expose a tall and narrow flexible primary display. We expect it to have the latest Qualcomm chipset and a 120Hz refresh rate on the screen.

And, if the Find N is any indication, it should be reasonably priced in comparison to Samsung’s folding devices. It’s expected to come before the end of the year, with the Find N2.

Xiaomi 12T & 12T Pro

Xiaomi is anticipated to offer the 12T and 12T Pro versions in Europe after launching the 12S series in China. These will be the region’s updated flagship models, using the Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 Plus CPU and the same 200-megapixel Samsung camera sensor that Motorola just unveiled in the Edge 30 Ultra.

Asus ROG Phone 6 and 6 Pro

The Asus ROG Phone 5 (and its 5s Pro follow-up) was our favorite gaming phone of 2021, and it was a beast of a blower. It checked all the boxes for playing on the move, with flawless performance, a stunning display, and no shortage of gaming-specific features.

The ROG Phone 6 takes this history and amplifies it.

Google Pixel Fold

Rumors about a folding Google Pixel have circulated since 2019, and the company has yet to confirm that one would be released shortly. The most current information on the gadget reveals that Google is dissatisfied with it and has postponed its release.

It is anticipated to be a book-style foldable, similar to the Galaxy Z Fold 4.

Sony Xperia 5 IV

The Xperia 5 IV, which borrows technology from the premium Xperia 1 IV, packs a tremendous feature set into somewhat smaller proportions – all while maintaining Sony’s iconic 21:9 aspect ratio. With three 12MP back sensors, it might be ideal for artists and enthusiast photographers.

Huawei Mate X3

Following the release of the outward folding Mate XS 2 in summer 2022, the firm is expected to release the inward folding Mate X3 next. The target date has been set for December 2022, although the corporation has not publicly announced it.

It will, however, be thinner and more robust than its predecessor.

Motorola Edge 30 Ultra

Motorola’s latest top-tier smartphone, the Edge 30, features a huge 200MP primary sensor. But the Edge 30 Ultra isn’t just a one-trick pony: it also comes with Qualcomm’s latest chipset, lightning-fast charging, and a super-high refresh rate display.

Oh, and its design is very stunning. Furthermore, it is less expensive than the Samsung Galaxy S22 and the Apple iPhone 14.

Samsung Galaxy S23 Series

The Galaxy S23, which is not due until early 2023, will be Samsung’s flagship series for next year. So yet, not much has been published about the phones, except that Samsung is rumored to be abandoning its own Exynos CPUs in favor of Qualcomm Snapdragon SoCs in all markets.

If history repeats itself, Samsung will release these phones in January/February 2023.

Nothing Phone 1

Carl Pei’s new company’s first smartphone endeavor. The guy who helped launch OnePlus is back with Phone 1, a unique mid-ranger with unique glyph illumination on the back and a translucent design.

Even without those eye-catching upgrades, it’s a highly powerful sub-£400 device with a sharper screen than you’d expect for the price.

Wrapping up

Smartphones are one of, if not the, most rapidly evolving technologies of our day.

Although it won’t happen overnight, implementing the aforementioned characteristics will usher us into the next era of mobile technology: one in which phones can survive for up to a week, are less hazardous to the environment, have a fully continuous display, and provide a seamless software experience.
